Ideal Weight Calculator

Find your ideal body weight range using the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas, based on height and sex. Metric and imperial, instant results.

How ideal weight is calculated

Four widely used clinical formulas estimate ideal body weight from height and sex, each assigning a base weight at 5 feet plus an increment per extra inch. Because they disagree slightly, the range across all four is more meaningful than any single number.

Devine: 50 kg (men) / 45.5 kg (women) + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft

Frequently asked questions

Why do the formulas give different answers?

Each was derived for a different purpose and population — Devine for drug dosing, Hamwi for quick clinical estimates. Treat the spread as a plausible healthy range rather than a target. This is general information, not medical advice.

Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?

Not exactly. Frame size, muscle mass and body composition matter. The BMI-based healthy range (18.5–24.9) for your height is another useful cross-check.

What if I'm shorter than 5 ft?

These formulas were defined for heights above 5 feet. Below that, results are less reliable — this calculator uses the base weight, and a BMI-based range is a better guide.
